        My biggest personal front-end win so far was a promo called “AI Gold Rush,” which earned $2.6 million.

        I followed that up with a hyperscale data center play that pulled in over $400,000.

        And I wrote an iBonds promo that sold over $300,000, too.

        I’ve worked on both the front-end and back-end.

        At the time, front-end marketing needed a spark coming off 2022 lows.

        AI Gold Rush was a front-end marketing campaign designed to jumpstart sales by appealing to investors who might be interested in the growing Artificial Intelligence boom.

        Now, the thing to understand is that Motley specializes in advertorial-style marketing on the front-end...

        But I pushed for something bigger.

        I pitched the concept, wrote a 4,000-word script, produced the VSL (including the voice-over), and wrote the sales copy.

        And the results?

        The VSL performed well by hitting margin...

        ....But the advertorial CRUSHED.

        In fact, this was the best-performing front-end campaign from mid-2023 through most of 2024.

        The campaign generated over $2.6 million and reignited front-end marketing sales — with an average margin of 52.21%.

        I didn’t stop there...

        Piggybacking off of that success, I had an idea that I called “AI's Invisible Goldmines”.

        This campaign was designed to appeal to AI enthusiasts by targeting a new niche — hyperscale data centers.

        I did the same thing.

        I wrote an advertorial...

        Then converted it to a sales email for internal prospects...

        And the money rolled in.

        It was the first new AI ad funnel winner in months, gaining over $400,000 in sales with a 60% margin.

      • How I create value for front-end prospects...And I learned it years before I was a financial copywriter

        Before I became a copywriter, I was an entrepreneur.

        After graduating with a degree in finance, and spending years working more nights and weekends than I could count….

        I eventually launched a subscription box service called The Incense Box.

        When I started this e-commerce business, I knew almost nothing about copywriting or paid advertising.

        But I had to find a way to turn a low-cost commodity like incense into a valuable product that people were willing to pay a premium for.

        So I did what every copywriter does—research.

        I visited farmers' markets and interviewed vendors and customers who were shopping for products...

        I purchased incense and products from online competitors to discover any flaws in their product offerings...

        And eventually, I discovered what most suppliers were missing.

        They were all providing a commodity — I knew I could sell an experience.

        And that’s exactly what I did.

        I grew the company from 21 recurring members to over 1,500 — in just 15 months — using persuasive storytelling, social media advertising, and a relatively new concept at the time…influencers.

        It was even featured in BuzzFeed as one of the top subscription boxes every homebody will want to own.

      • Here are two things that helped me grow...

        What helped me grow was understanding how to tell a story…

        And the importance of piling on value for prospects.

        And I mean a ton of it.

        Similar to your premium offers...

        I offered prospects more products to enjoy per box.

        The basic box included just incense and a meditation plan.

        The premium boxes included incense, essential oils, candles, sage sticks, palo santo sticks, and plans that customers could choose from.

        And this experience gave me all the tools I eventually used to create bestselling copy at The Motley Fool.

        What I learned from Motley...

        At Motley, I learn how to fine-tune my storytelling.

        As I previously mentioned, Motley specializes in an advertorial-style sales funnel where writers have around 500 words to make a sale.

        Now, the challenge with this is you have to convince a prospect in just a few hundred words to buy.

        VSLs have more space to persuade.

        So I learned how to find the spiciest hooks and topics that would resonate.

        Using my background in finance, I sometimes took chances writing advertorials on off-brand topics like inflation bonds.

        For example, you and I both know that stock investors and bond investors have two different investment philosophies...

        But I was able to connect the dots by telling the truth.

        I wrote an advertorial about how I believed iBonds were a phenomenal investment opportunity at the time for leery investors...

        And, I shared that this was probably the best rate they were ever going to see, and why stocks would prove to be more valuable over time.

        The promo worked. Margin was over 80%....

        It crushed the average order rate by 50%...

        It generated 8,666 email captures...

        And, over $300,000 in sales.

        And again...that was from a single 626-word advertorial.

        Of course, not all of my advertorials hit. This is copywriting after all.

        Some ideas made money, others didn’t scale, and some we killed shortly after launch.

        But like a stock portfolio, the winners covered the rest.

        And advertorials weren't all that I brought...
